SELF LOVE

When February rolls around we are always so concerned with love – our feelings for others and how we can show how much love we have for them. But what we also need to remember to focus on is our love for ourselves. Love doesn’t always need to be romantic but also includes feeling good and caring for ourselves. Here are some ways in which we can focus on our own heart health while we also show our loved ones that we care.

Create a Self-Love Diet & Eat Mindfully

There is a saying that you are what you eat. So why would you want to put fatty, junky things into your body when you can consume foods that are not only healthier, but provide you with the nutrients you need to live a happier, healthier life with a clear mind? It is crucial to accept the fact that your body deserves to feel good, so you can make the next step of actively searching for those delicious, healthy feel-good foods that you can feed your body.

Feeding your body is a balancing act. Sticking with a nutrient-rich diet will give you more energy and make you feel better on the inside, but it is also important to treat yourself occasionally. So go ahead and splurge on that favorite pasta dish or on your favorite sweet treat. If you don’t satiate your desire for that guilty-pleasure treat, you will start to resent all those healthy meals and binge more on the bad stuff.

Don’t make yourself feel ashamed or guilty about what you eat, always stay mindful because moderation and balance is healthy. Take the time to enjoy your food and eliminate distractions.

Trust Your Body

Only you know what is best for your body. Listen to what it is telling you. Feeling light-headed and hungry but food isn’t satisfying that need? Drink some water. Legs feeling restless at night? Try a potassium-rich food like a banana to help keep your legs still. Incorporating Magnesium in your diet will help optimize your mental health, ease depression, headache, irritability, and insomnia.

Let Go of Perfection

Being perfect is not a realistic goal, especially in your diet. When you strive for perfection you only set yourself up for disappointment. Setting realistic goals will not only help you accomplish what you want, but will also help you protect yourself from a negative mindset. Remember to be kind to yourself because nobody is perfect and being happy and healthy is better than being perfect any day.

Pursue Movement in Your Body

Keep your body moving. Get your blood and endorphins flowing. Try a new yoga class or go out dancing with the people you love. Grab some boxing gloves and go kickboxing. Take a trip and swim in the ocean. Take a walk with your four-legged friend. No matter what you do, just move.
